This deck of cards from ELSA and SAM is cleverly designed for children with educational symbols that match the numbers on each playing card. The deck contains 52 playing cards and 3 extra cards with mathematical symbols on the front and back, allowing the deck to be used for maths games as well.

The deck of cards makes it fun for children to join in playing card games and solitaire. Each card has nice designs and symbols in the same colour as the number, making it easier for the child to count and see how much the card is worth. For example, the 2 has 2 planes, the 4 has 4 ice creams, the 7 has 7 clouds and so on.

The design of the dressed playing cards is also slightly different from that of a regular deck. To make it easier to understand the value of the different cards – Ace, Jack, Queen and King – have been replaced by the numbers 1, 11, 13 and 12.

Counting maths
The three jokers have been replaced by three extra cards with mathematical symbols on the front and back. With these extra cards, you can practise counting numbers, play maths games and practise addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Designed with diversity in mind
The deck is designed by the Swedish company ELSA and SAM. The idea behind the deck is to challenge norms and give children a broader perspective. In particular, diversity, in terms of functional variation, ethnicity and gender roles, has been a central idea when designing the deck. Equal value should be a natural part of a child's environment. For example, the Queen has been depicted on card 13 and the King on card 12, because why should male characters always have to have the highest value? 

ELSA and SAM was founded in 2019 by mother-of-two Johanna Abdo. Frustrated by the homogeneous range of children's products, Johanna decided it was time to do something about it. ELSA and SAM produces products that allow children to see our beautiful differences and uniqueness.

The card deck is standard size and perfect for using at home, on the road and at school.
