- Attach to the oar
- Fits most oars
- Holds up to 400 kilos
This safety step is a Swedish innovation that is attached to the oar of your rowboat to help you out of the water in case you fall overboard. The safety step provides you with a steady tread to step on and can be used on most wooden oars that are attached to an oarlock.
The safety step weighs just 80 grams and is easily attached to the middle of the oar. It does not get in the way or make the oar feel noticeably heavier when rowing. The step can handle loads of up to 400 kilos and fits oars with a diameter of 4.7 centimetres at the widest point.
Remove the oar from the oarlock in order to attach the safety step. Slip the safety step onto the oar, followed by the small O-ring. Finally slide the safety step up over the O-ring so that it is firmly attached to the oar. Place the step so that it does not interfere when you are rowing.
If you fall overboard, pull the safety step down to the bottom of the oar. You can then use it as a step to help you climb back into the boat.
The safety step is made of fiberglass-reinforced polyamide and the O-ring is made of EPDM rubber. The safety step is made in Sweden and has been tested by the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.
