The Swedish company Light My Fire was founded in 1995 by Michael Odqvist. It all started with Michael discovering Maya Sticks, a resin-rich piece of wood extracted from special pine stumps in Guatemala. Maya Sticks have been used by the locals since time began to quickly make fires in all weathers.

Michael's fascination with Maya Sticks led him to Guatemala where he started a large-scale Fair-Trade production with the locals. 400 of the descendants of the Maya Indians earned money working for Michael to send their children to school. After a year in Guatemala, Michael returned to Sweden and took Maya Stick with him.

In 1996, Michael found the perfect solution to complement the resin-rich piece of wood: a magnesium lighter developed and used by the Swedish military. All the design pieces fell into place and the combination created an unbeatable way to light a fire, in all weathers and at all altitudes.

After creating the first product, Michael enlisted the help of brand specialist Claes Andréasson and copywriter Steve Strid whose daughter Calill Odkvist became the company CEO. Together they created Light My Fire; a brand concept with high-quality outdoor products designed in a range of colours.

In 2004, Light My Fire moved its entire operation to a vacant factory in Västervik. The first product made by the new factory was MealKit, designed by Joachim Nordvall. A complete lunch kit with everything you need to eat outdoors, including the smart multi-cutlery, Spork, which soon became extremely popular throughout the world.

Since MealKit and Spork were introduced to the market in 2005, Light My Fire has sold over 21 million Sporks. This success has allowed Light My Fire to develop more products made of more environmentally smart materials. Light My Fire's products are sold today in over 50 countries.
